I retired and had everything I could have wanted, but something felt missing from my life, and this is when I thought, I should volunteer. I found Interim hospice and thought it looked like such a good fit. Doing this has brought me so much joy! People often think when I say hospice that it is sad. It isn’t like that at all! Hospice volunteering is a great experience.
Carissa has been providing Palliative NP services for 85% of our residents in both of our facilities. During this time, we cannot begin by applauding her enough for the care and services she brings to our organization and residents. Carissa is known for how she goes above and beyond for her patients, always in a professional manner.
The palliative, hospice, and home health services that Interim provides have been an amazing resource here for our residents. Many of our residents cannot get out to medical appointments or have conditions that limit their mobility, making travel difficult. With Carissa and other Interim personnel in our community, our residents get to see them firsthand.
Everyone we came into contact with on the Hospice team was professional, caring, sympathetic and went above and beyond! Special thanks to Tim, Serena and Stephanie. What is Palliative Care?

Palliative Care is specialized medical care that focuses on managing symptoms and treating chronic disease, while focusing on the patient and families quality of life.
It is appropriate at any age and at any stage of illness and can be provided along with all treatment options. Palliative Care offers a wide variety of services, which are covered under traditional medical insurance, Medicaid and Medicare Part B.
Patients can be seen in their home, a rehabilitation center, or a long-term care facility. Our Palliative care providers work with your PCP and other specialists to provide holistic care and also help to coordinate doctor visits and medical testing.

Dr. Andrew J. Offerle, MD
Dr. Offerle, graduating with honors from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2002, has accrued over 20 years of experience as a practicing physician, predominantly specializing in Emergency Medicine. Despite his primary focus, his inaugural research project during medical school centered on hospice care, aiming to enhance support for numerous families within the healthcare system. His personal journey caring for his mother, who battled end-stage Alzheimer’s while under hospice care, reignited his dedication to this crucial aspect of patient support. Dr. Offerle's blend of professional expertise and personal empathy uniquely qualifies him to connect deeply with each member of the hospice team, patients, and families alike.
Our mission, under Dr. Offerle's stewardship, is to prioritize the comfort, well-being, and individual needs of every patient, ensuring their journey is filled with unwavering support and dignity. Hospice care at Interim HealthCare of Wausau is all about celebrating life and making memories. We work with our patients, families, and local organizations to make these memories through our "Joy of Life" celebration. In the attached video you can see how we partnered with Sheepdog, a wonderful veterans organization to provide a fun fishing trip to one of our veteran hospice patients and his family.
