For many older adults, home represents comfort, familiarity and independence. But as we age, everyday spaces can also present unexpected fall risks.
Falls are a serious concern for seniors, but many falls can be prevented with simple changes, increased awareness and the right support. At Interim HealthCare of Fargo, we believe helping seniors remain safe and independent at home starts with creating an environment where they can move with confidence.
Simple Steps to Help Prevent Falls
Keep pathways clear.
Clutter, electrical cords, small furniture and other objects can quickly become tripping hazards. Keep frequently used walkways open and easy to navigate.
Improve lighting.
Make sure hallways, stairways, bathrooms and bedrooms are well lit. Nightlights can also help seniors safely navigate their home after dark.
Make bathrooms safer.
Bathrooms can be especially challenging because of wet, slippery surfaces. Grab bars, non-slip mats and appropriate bathroom equipment can provide additional stability and support.
Choose safe footwear.
Supportive, properly fitting shoes with non-slip soles can help improve stability. Loose slippers or walking in socks may increase the risk of slipping.
Keep everyday items within reach.
Frequently used items should be stored where they can be easily accessed without climbing, stretching or using a step stool.
Encourage movement and strength.
When appropriate, regular physical activity can help maintain strength, flexibility and balance. Seniors should talk with their healthcare provider about activities that are safe and appropriate for them.
Review medications and health changes.
Some medications or changes in vision, hearing, strength or balance can affect fall risk. Regular conversations with healthcare providers can help identify concerns before they lead to a fall.
Sometimes, a Helping Hand Makes All the Difference
Fall prevention isn't only about making changes around the home. Having additional support with everyday activities can provide seniors and their families with greater peace of mind.
A caregiver can assist with activities such as personal care, meal preparation, light housekeeping, mobility around the home and other daily needs. Just as importantly, having someone there can provide companionship and an extra set of eyes to notice potential safety concerns.
At Interim HealthCare of Fargo, we understand how important it is for seniors to maintain their independence and continue living in the place they call home.
Family owned and serving our communities since 1991, our team is committed to providing compassionate, dependable care tailored to each individual's needs.
Safety. Independence. Peace of Mind.
A few small changes today can make a meaningful difference in helping a loved one feel safer at home.
If you're beginning to notice that a parent, grandparent or loved one could use additional support at home, Interim HealthCare of Fargo is here to help.
Veteran Owned. Women Owned. Family Owned.

The Positive Impact of Home Care for Seniors
As we age, comfort, independence, and dignity become increasingly important. For many seniors, home care offers the perfect balance of support and freedom—allowing them to remain in the place they love most while receiving the care they need.
Comfort of Home
There’s no place like home. Familiar surroundings, cherished routines, and personal comforts can greatly reduce stress and anxiety for seniors. Home care allows individuals to heal, age, and thrive in an environment where they feel safe and at ease.
Promotes Independence
Home care is designed to support—not replace—independence. With personalized assistance tailored to individual needs, seniors can continue daily activities while receiving help where it matters most. This sense of autonomy often leads to greater confidence and overall well-being.
Personalized, One-on-One Care
Unlike facility-based care, home care is highly individualized. Care plans are customized to meet each senior’s unique physical, emotional, and medical needs, ensuring attentive, compassionate support every step of the way.
Improved Health and Safety
Receiving care at home can reduce the risk of falls, medication errors, and hospital readmissions. Caregivers help monitor health changes, manage medications, and ensure a safe living environment—providing peace of mind for both seniors and their families.
Emotional and Social Support
Companionship is a powerful part of home care. Regular interaction with caregivers helps combat loneliness and isolation. A trusted caregiver can become a meaningful source of connection, encouragement, and stability.
The Difference of a Family-Owned Home Care Company
Choosing a family-owned home care provider adds a deeper level of trust and personal connection. Family-owned companies are rooted in the communities they serve and understand the importance of treating every client like family. Decisions are made with care, relationships are prioritized, and services are delivered with genuine compassion—not a corporate checklist.
At Interim HealthCare, our family-owned legacy drives everything we do. We are honored to care for seniors and support families with dependable, heartfelt home care—helping individuals live safely, comfortably, and confidently at home.
